When you get back

Remember to continue your antimalarial treatment after you get back, unless your doctor has put you on a different prescription.

Certain tropical diseases can have a long incubation period. Contact the Travel Clinic at the Centre Hospitalier de Luxembourg if you experience any of the following symptoms in the months after returning from your trip:

  • fever,
  • diarrhoea,
  • stomach ache,
  • skin rashes,
  • itchiness.

Tell your doctor which country you visited and which medication you have taken, if any.

Also let your doctor know if other people who travelled with you are experiencing similar symptoms.

If you have a fever following a visit to a high-risk country, it is important to consider the possibility that you may have malaria. It can be detected by a simple blood test.

Also consult your doctor if you have had unprotected sex and think you have contracted a sexually transmitted disease or infection.

Always speak to a doctor if you feel unwell after you get back from your trip.
