Pink October: 'Ech ginn an d’Mammo. An du?'
Each year, October is breast cancer awareness month, also known as Pink October. This month is an opportunity to raise women's awareness of early screening and prevention.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), breast cancer represents 16 % of female cancers, and is the number one cause of death from cancer among women. In Luxembourg, breast cancer is the most common female cancer, and is the main cause of death among women aged 50 to 70.
With a view to boosting awareness and promoting early screening, the Ministry of Health is organising an awareness campaign that will run throughout Pink October. The Ministry is encouraging women within the at-risk age group of 50 to 70, to go for breast cancer screening as part of the 'Mammogram Programme' organised by the Health Directorate.
This programme, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, is aimed at women between the ages of 50 and 70, resident in Luxembourg and registered with the CNS. Every 23 months, this age group will receive an invitation to have a mammogram at one of the authorised screening centres located at 1 of the 5 hospital facilities in Luxembourg.
